Statkraft has begun offering International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) in Brazil from its 35MW Maraubas wind farm in Bahia.
The Norwegian outfit said it is the first company in Brazil to supply the certificates as part of the initiative that helps end-users reliably document the origin of the electricity they consume. Each I-REC is equivalent to 1MWh of renewable energy.
“It makes us proud to be the first generator in the market to register a power plant under this scheme,” Statkraft Brazil chief executive Fernando de Lapuerta said.
“I-RECs will provide reliable support for renewable production in Brazil and will help to promote the development of new renewable capacity in the system.”
