German developer WPD has acquired the US division of domestic rival Volkswind to take its first steps in the American wind energy market.
The new venture WPD Wind Projects will operate from Portland in Oregon, where Volkswind USA was founded in 2008.
The company will develop wind farms in several states, WPD said.
“We see a large potential in the US wind energy market and are looking forward to expand WPD’s international activities and develop promising projects together with the local team,” WPD executive Gernot Blanke said.
Last month, the German developer won contracts for three wind farms with a combined 350MW in Chile’s latest electricity tender.
