Steelwind Nordenham has won a contract to supply 36 monopile foundations and transition pieces for Dong Energy’s 448MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm in the German North Sea.
The German company said it will complete manufacturing of the structures in early 2018 and will hire 300 new workers to tackle the job.
Borkum Riffgrund 2, which will be located 34km north of Borkum island, will consist of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW machines to be installed by Fred Olsen Windcarrier.
Offshore construction for Borkum Riffgrund 2 will start in 2018, with full commissioning due in the first half of 2019.
Steelwind Nordenham opened a plant last year capable of producing super-size components up to 10 metres in diameter, 120 metres in length and weighing 1500 tonnes.
Full production at the yard near Bremerhaven can reach 100 units per annum.
