Vatenfall has launched a €3m scientific research programme in Scotland to study the environmental impacts of offshore wind power.
The programme, based at the utility´s European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) off the Aberdeen coast, will allocate the fund among scientists that apply to study the environment around the 11-turbine plant.
A panel of specialists including RSPB Scotland and the Crown Estate will advise on its allocation, Vattenfall said.
The programme is believed to be the largest of its kind, according to the company.
“In-depth scientific research and monitoring in a real-time environment is recognised as vital to maximising the learning opportunities for the offshore wind sector,” EOWDC project director for Vattenfall Adam Ezzamel (pictured) said.
“We’re pleased that the research will take place at the EOWDC as it underlines the importance of the scheme as a global hub of innovation.”
Expressions of interest in the research programme are due by 2 September.
