Gamesa has started delivering nine new turbines to the 18MW Ovenden Moor wind farm near the UK town of Halifax ahead of the expected completion of the revived site later this year.
Ovendon Moor, a joint venture between Eon and Energy Power Resources, had been operating for over 22 years but was decommissioned last year.
Gamesa is supplying its G80 2MW wind turbines to the joint venture.
Five of the nine have already arrived at the construction site and the remainder will be delivered “over the next couple of months”, Eon said.
The turbine components are being delivered on weekends by Halifax-based Collet & Sons with a support of a police escort to minimize traffic disruptions.
“Turbine technology has come a long way in recent years and once complete, the new nine turbines will be able to produce twice as much power as the original 23 turbines,” Eon senior stakeholder executive Nick Taylor said.
