About 20 turbines have been installed at the 150MW Deerfield wind farm in central Michigan.
General contractor White Construction is building the project for joint venture partners Algonquin Power and Renewable Energy Systems Americas.
Construction is “advancing well” with turbines going up “at the rate of about six a week,” Algonquin chief executive Ian Robertson said.
The wind farm, located on 20,000 acres of leased land, will feature 44 Vestas V110 2MW and 28 V110 2.2MW turbines when completed. Vestas also has a 10-year operations and maintenance agreement.
Deerfield holds a 20-year power purchase agreement with Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative, a local electric distribution utility serving approximately 260,000 customers in the US state. The wind farm is expected to produce about 555.2 GWh/year.
Total project cost is pegged at about $303m.
Algonquin holds an option to acquire RES’s 50% interest following the start of commercial operations. Deerfield is slated to come online in late 2016.
