Scaldis has been selected to install a pair of substation topsides for the grid connection at the 600MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm off Denmark.
The Belgian contractor will tackle both the KFA and KFBE units, which will not only provide an export link to shore for the wind farm but a Baltic Sea interconnection with the German grid.
The infrastructure is being built across national boundaries by transmission operators 50Hertz and Energinet.dk. The topsides are currently due to be lifted into place in spring 2018.
Each of the substations will provide an AC link for Kriegers, but one will also serve as a 400MW HVDC converter station.
The components will sit atop hybrid steel/concrete gravity base foundations to be installed separately. Hollandia will supply the substations.
The right to build the Kriegers Flak wind farm is the subject of an ongoing tender exercise by the Danish government.
