Norway’s ministry of petroleum and energy has refused Eon a licence for an up to 80MW wind farm in the south-east of the country.
The ministry said building the wind farm would impact biodiversity, particularly bird life, in the area, and negatively affect the landscape and outdoor activities.
The project had been given a concession to go ahead by Norway’s energy regulator – the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate – in 2014.
The concession decision was appealed and the local council also came out in opposition to the project, the ministry said.
It added that the benefits of the wind farm did not outweigh the negative impacts.
A spokesman for Eon said “We now need to carefully review the decision in detail and decide on the next step to take for the project as we deem this project to be one of the best projects in Norway.”
