Bibby HydroMap has completed ahead of schedule surveys of the Western Isles connection from mainland Scotland to the Isle of Lewis for SHE Transmission.
The work for SHE Transmission – part of SSE – consisted of geophysical, geotechnical, benthic and land surveys, the company said.
Bibby used three vessels for the job – the 27.5-metre DP1 Bibby Tethra for offshore geophysics, geotechnical sampling and benthic operations, the 14-metre MV Proteus for nearshore geophysics and the nine-metre RIB Cougar to ensure overlap between the inshore and land survey.
Over 1000km of survey data were acquired by Bibby Tethra using its dual head Kongsberg EM2040-4 together with the towed Edgetech 4200 side scan sonar and geometrics magnetometer using the Sonadyne Mini-Ranger 2 USBL.
Shallow sub-bottom profile data were also acquired using the vessel’s hull-mounted applied acoustics pinger, the company said.
SHE Transmission representative Neil Anderson said: “SHE Transmission is continuing to progress the development of the Western Isles connection with a view of preparing and submitting a needs case to the industry regulator Ofgem in spring 2017.”
