Lightsource Renewable Energy has grid-connected the 11.94MW Charity Farm solar facility in Shropshire, the UK’s first contracts for difference (CfD) PV plant.
The project, which received £8.7m in funding from The Royal Bank of Scotland, was one of five solar projects to win support in the first round of CfD auctions last year.
Lightsource teamed up with EPC contractor Biosar Energy (UK) to install the project in just over two months.
All the electricity generated by Charity Farm will be bought by Axpo UK in a deal worth £7.5m over seven years.
Lightsource chief executive officer Nick Boyle said: “A truly competitive system is fair to all concerned, but there has been no new round of auctions announced for solar as yet and, if the UK is serious about the future of its energy security, it is important that this is addressed.”
