Alliant Energy plans to invest about $1bn to expand wind power operations by up to 500MW in the US state of Iowa.
The company said its Iowa utility, Interstate Power and Light, is seeking regulatory approval to expand the 200MW Whispering Willow wind farm (pictured) in Franklin County and possibly develop new wind projects elsewhere in the state.
Alliant said it is seeking approval now for the five-year project to “maximize the value of renewable energy tax credits to benefit its customers”.
It added that the plans would also generate millions of dollars in property taxes and result in more than 1500 jobs at peak construction.
