Mojo Maritime has successfully retrieved tidal developer Sabella’s D10 turbine from its installation site off France’s Ushant island in Brittany.
The operation was undertaken using the DP-3 vessel Aker Wayfarer following one-year’s testing in the Fromeur passage.
The 1MW turbine will undergo maintenance before being redeployed in the autumn. Sabella will also repair a damaged joint between the tidal and the export cable.
James Fisher subsidiary Mojo’s scope of the first phase of the tidal device contract included the design and manufacture of bespoke project critical equipment, a remote launch and recovery system plus docking frame.
Mojo director Richard Parkinson said: “I am very proud of the Mojo team for developing innovative and robust solutions allowing for rapid, efficient and safe retrieval and reinstallation of the turbine.”
Sabella’s D10 is the first grid-connected tidal turbine to export power to France’s grid, achieving 70MWh so far.
