A Marubeni Corp-led consortium is to carry out a feasibility study of the planned 145MW Akita offshore wind farm in Japan.
The project, if it goes ahead, would consist of a 65MW wind farm at Akita Port and an 80MW facility at Noshiro Port.
The public offering for the project was made by Akita Prefecture, with Marubeni selected in February 2015 as the potential owner.
Marubeni has set up a special purpose company – Akita Offshore Wind Farm Corp – to assess the project’s commercial viability.
If the feasibility study determines that the project is commercially viable, Akita Offshore Wind Farm Corp will then make an investment decision, Marubeni said.
The consortium also includes Obayashi Corp, Tohoku Sustainable & Renewable Energy, Eco Power, Akita Bank, Kansai Electric Power, as well as seven local companies based in Akita Prefecture.
