Enercon has achieved a major milestone with 1GW of turbines installed across the UK.
The German manufacturer has built 750 turbines across 351 projects since erecting an E-40 500kW machine at Nympsfield in Gloucestershire, England, in 1996.
Enercon UK has 270 staff across two main offices, a warehouse, a training centre and 19 service stations, of which two are usually unmanned.
The company’s biggest wind farm is Invenergy’s nearly-complete 69MW Corriegarth in the Highlands, followed closely by Statkraft’s 67MW Berry Burn in Moray.
It is currently building the 52MW Harburnhead in central Scotland for Enel Viento and FIM as part of an expected and record 275MW haul in 2016.
“Enercon UK has installed over 700 turbines through a wide variety of projects – single turbines for independent land owners, self-consumption sites to help businesses reduce energy costs and decarbonise, bespoke projects bringing benefits to local communities, through to large utility scale wind farms of 60MW to 70MW each,” said the company.
