EDF has awarded a three-year operations and maintenance contract to UK outfit EDS Group for the high voltage network of the 62MW Teesside offshore wind farm.
The deal, with an optional one-year extension, will see the operating facility come under the remit of the EDS Control Centre, the high voltage engineering specialists said.
The centre will manage the network around the clock, carrying out planned maintenance as well as fault location services and emergency repairs.
It already manages more than 1GW of electricity, according to the company.
The Teesside wind farm, located off England’s northeast coast, has been operating since 2013.
“Both the UK government and the energy sector have put a very strong focus on reducing the cost of energy produced by offshore wind projects,” EDS Group director Ryan Henderson said.
“Proactive maintenance and effective monitoring with rapid fault detection and response play an important role in optimising efficiency, reducing operational costs and managing the LCOE.”
EDS Group have also appointed Peter Lunn as HR director.
He was previously HR director for Siemens transmission and distribution division.
EDS said Lunn’s role will include resource planning, recruitment and training, as well as developing and implementing the company’s HR strategy in line with the business plan.
