TenneT has opened the door to connecting an additional 700MW offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
The Dutch grid operator was reacting to a call by the foundation Natuur&Milieu and developer Eneco for extra capacity on top of the already planned 3.45GW.
Development offshore would come instead of biomass co-firing at coal plants onshore.
However, TenneT said the connection would only be feasible if the government decided on the project’s offshore location this year.
The company said the development should be connected through an AC grid link but not before 2023.
Dong is building the first of the country’s next-generation projects, the 700MW Borssele 1&2, while tendering for the 680MW Borssele 3&4 will kick off in September.
