Senvion has erected the first of 46 3.2M114 turbines at the 150MW Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n wind farm in Quebec, the company’s first 3MW unit in North America.
The project, a 50:50 joint venture between Innergex and three Mi’gmaq Nations of Quebec, was awarded a power purchase agreement in March 2014 and is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2016.
Senvion said the 3.2MW machine has a hub height of 100 metres and a rotor diameter of 114 metres and is also its largest machine to be installed in Canada.
The 3.2M114 has been in service in Europe since 2012, and has been specially adapted for North America, the company said.
The turbine is equipped with a hot air anti-icing system to be able to produce a maximum amount of yield even in harsh climates, it added.
Senvion chief executive officer in North America Helmut Herold said: “With the arrival and installation of the 3.2M114 we are adding and growing our North American portfolio but also showcasing how our high quality proven German technology specifically adapted for North America.”
