EDF EN Canada has selected general contractor Borea Construction to build the 224.4MW Nicolas Riou wind project in Quebec, an EDF spokesperson told reNEWS.
Preliminary work has kicked off on tree clearing, roads and waterway crossings at the site in the Lower St Lawrence region. The developer expects to start foundation construction in August.
Vestas is slated to start delivery in spring 2017 of 65 V117 3.45MW turbines with 116.5m hub heights. The contract includes a 10-year service agreement.
EDF is joined in the 50:50 project in partnership with local communities and regional municipalities. Construction of the C$500m project is expected to create about 400 jobs.
The Nicolas Riou scheme is scheduled to be online by 1 December 2017.
The wind farm was awarded a 25-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Québec in a 2013 call for tenders in which the average rate of the projects selected was 6.3 cents/kWh.
Nicolas Riou is the last of eight wind projects awarded to EDF in Quebec.
It is also EDF’s fourth project held in partnership with a regional municipality; the others are 300MW Lac Alfred, 24.6MW La Mitis and 24.6MW Le Granit.
