Mainstream Renewable Power has started commercial operations at the 80MW Noupoort wind farm in South Africa’s Northern Cape region.
The company said commercial operations had been achieved on schedule and on budget.
The project is the first wind plant to successfully achieve operation as part of the third round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
It comprises 35 Siemens 99-metre high turbines.
Noupoort wind farm country programme manager Savva Antoniadis said: “We are thrilled to have reached this milestone on target and to have met all Eskom’s requirements including Grid Code Compliance, thereby achieving [commercial operations] just 17 months after construction commenced.”
