Norwegian outfit StormGeo has developed a suite of weather forecasting services for companies involved in cable laying activities.
The company said its cable lay service provides a common operating picture (COP) to enable companies to make “effective, knowledge-based and timely decisions” to assess weather risk.
The solution’s portal interface allows users to control displayed layers including metocean data, vessel locations, AIS tracking, satellite and radar imagery, visibility, ice conditions and other parameters, StormGeo said.
It added that, if required, it can support operations with a dedicated onsite meteorologist who will provide expert and decision support on operative windows.
StormGeo chief executive officer Kent Zehetner said: “Cable laying operations are challenging, time critical and dependent on weather conditions.
“It requires extensive expertise and highly accurate, up-to-date information to prevent project delays caused by bad weather and rough sea-state conditions.”
