Developer RES Americas is laying the groundwork for a 180MW wind farm in southwest Washington State.
RES proposes to build about 52 turbines in Thurston and Lewis counties, according to a legal notice.
The Skookumchuck project would be located on private land owned by Weyerhaeuser Company, about 15 miles southeast of Olympia. The timber company also leases land to wind projects in the eastern US.
The developer, a division of UK-headquartered Renewable Energy Systems, is pursuing the project “in response to increasing demands for electricity, and the requirement under Washington law that utilities meet a defined portion of their customer demand from clean, renewable sources of energy”, said RES.
The proponent intends to interconnect with Puget Sound Energy and is evaluating three points of interconnection.
Other interconnection alternatives may be identified and pursued depending on meetings with transmission operators, said RES.
The developer plans to apply to the county for a special use permit.
Construction is expected to last about 18 months with a proposed commercial operation date of 31 December 2018.
