Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has acquired a controlling interest in SunPower’s 102MW Henrietta solar farm in Kings County, California.
SunPower, which owns the remaining interest in the project, developed, designed and is constructing the facility and will operate and maintain it upon completion.
Construction started in May 2015, and the project is expected to be fully operational in the third quarter of this year.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company will buy the electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated by the facility under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
The project is Southern Power’s 11th solar scheme in California.
Southern Power president and chief executive officer Buzz Miller said: “Through strategic partnerships, including with SunPower, we continue to accelerate our solar generation growth in California.”
