Tekmar and polymer giant Covestro will cooperate to deliver subsea cable protection systems (CPS) for the Chinese offshore wind market.
The companies said they will develop solutions including bend stiffeners and bend restrictors to protect cables at vulnerable locations.
As part of the agreement, Covestro will supply elastomer casting machinery and systems, as well as processing know-how, to enable the manufacturing in China of Tekmar’s CPS.
Tekmar is installing its first protection system in the region at Taiwan’s 130MW Formosa offshore wind farm.
The Chinese offshore wind market is set to reach 10GW within the next three to five years, the partners said.
Covestro Elastomers chief executive Michael Friede said: “We both established our technologies as the reference point for cable protection for offshore wind farms in Europe.
“We aim to build on these successes and act as vanguard in China.
“We look forward to further develop and introduce our new materials and technology for Tekmar’s future generation products.”
