Maritime Craft Services has started sea trials of the MCS Swath 1 crew transfer vessel, the 24th ship to join the company’s fleet.
The acquisition, announced today at Global Offshore Wind 2016 in Manchester, will eventually see the 26-metre Typhoon class vessel carry passengers and cargo to offshore wind farms.
The company said MCS Swath 1 (pictured) is the firm’s first small waterplane area twin hull (Swath) vessel and is designed specifically for the developing needs of the offshore wind farm industry.
The boat has 95-metre squared deck space, a top speed of 25.8 knots, a Bureau Veritas classification, and motion control for superior comfort and reduced passenger fatigue.
The vessel will be available for charter by end August 2016, when sea trials are complete.
Maritime Craft Services managing director Menno Kuyt said: “As offshore wind farms move further offshore, the industry needs vessels that can transfer people and cargo in greater wave heights – we anticipate transfers in up to 2.5m significant wave height.”
