UK offshore wind will flourish regardless of Thursday’s EU referendum result, Renewable UK’s new chief executive officer told delegates today at Global Offshore Wind 2016 in Manchester.
Hugh McNeal said he accepted companies would be nervous about the result, but he told delegates “of the great future I am convinced our industry will enjoy regardless of the result of the vote in two days’ time”.
In his first keynote speech since taking over the helm from Maria McCaffery, McNeal (pictured) said that renewables were now part of the energy mainstream in the UK and around the world.
The UK industry will flourish in partnership not isolation with other countries, he said.
McNeal praised the expanding supply chain and international co-operation and said “Whatever the British people decide on Thursday my message to you is our future is bright; the global opportunity immense.
“Almost £1 in every £5 being spent on infrastructure in Britain is in renewables, with offshore wind leading the way.”
