Alterra Power has acquired the 200MW Flat Top wind farm, which is under development in Comanche and Mills County in Texas, from Pioneer Green Energy and Lavaca Wind.
The company said it placed a $1.6m security deposit with the local transmission provider when the deal was closed.
Alterra will also undertake some construction activities to ensure the Flat Top project will qualify for the US production tax credit.
The wind farm is expected to be completed and be operating by the end of 2017.
Alterra vice president of wind operations Paul Rapp said: “This project builds on our recent success financing and constructing the nearby 204MW Shannon wind farm in Texas and, like the Shannon project, takes advantage of the recent extension of renewable energy tax incentives in the United States.
“The Flat Top project has a strong resource, clean transmission story and proximity to growing power demand in Texas, and is well-suited for long-term service under either a power purchase agreement or power hedge.”
