Seacat Services is expanding its training programs to provide local talent for the growing UK offshore wind industry.
The support vessel operator will add dedicated traineeship and cadetship programs to the maritime apprenticeship scheme it started in 2014.
These specialist training courses, delivered with Red Ensign and HTP Training, will provide an entry point for young UK seafarers into the fast-growing industry, it said.
The partners will also improve the facilities of the apprenticeship program with the acquisition of a specialist training vessel, a 16-metre catamaran.
In addition, they will broaden the scope of the program by drawing candidates from areas with offshore projects as well as the Isle of Wight and the South Coast.
Red Ensign managing director Andrew Dale said: “It’s particularly satisfying to be able to broaden the reach of this year’s schemes across the UK and provide an even greater level of access to opportunities in offshore wind from our training hub on the Isle of Wight.”
