BASF’s wind turbine rain erosion resistant coating Relest Wind LEP S has passed an external 50-hour test.
The company said the test showed that with a speed of up to 160 metres a second the rain did not cause any significant damage on the coating, which is virtually solvent-free.
The coating consists of a gel coat, a filler, an edge protection and a topcoat based on two-component polyurethane compounds to comply with present VOC directives.
BASF said the coating system covers all components from the base of the wind power plant to the rotor blade edge.
The test was carried out at an unnamed institute in Denmark.
