DEME subsidiary Tideway has been awarded a contract to install the export cables for Dong Energy’s 1.2GW Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm off the Yorkshire coast.
The Belgian company said it will deploy its newest DP3 cable lay vessel Living Stone which is currently being built by LaNaval in Bilbao. It will be delivered in April 2017.
Tideway said the work includes cable-laying, pre-trenching, backfilling, pre-sweeping, route preparation and rock placement of three high voltage subsea power cables from the shore to three different offshore substation platforms, as well as the installation of two interlink cables.
The power cables will be pulled ashore near Horseshoe Point immediately south of the Humber Estuary.
Work will begin in 2017 with the last export cable to be laid in mid-2019.
Hornsea director Duncan Clark said: “We are pleased to be able to call on the experience of Tideway for this vital cable installation and pre-trenching work. This activity will take us another step towards the construction of the world’s largest offshore wind farm.”
The project’s export cables will be manufactured by ABB and NKT.
