Belgium’s Council of Ministers have approved, on second reading, a draft law reducing to 19 years the support period for the 309MW Rentel and up to 370MW Norther offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
Offshore wind farms currently operating receive support for 20 years.
The draft, which amends the system for granting green certificates, provides for a levelised cost of energy or discounted cost of energy of €124/MWh for Norther and €129.8/MWh for Rentel.
It also extends the duration of the concession to 22 years from 20 years.
Rentel, which will feature Siemens SWT-7.0-154 turbines, is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2018.
MHI Vestas is the preferred supplier of V164 8MW turbines for the Norther project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2019.
