MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is ramping up blade production at its Nakskov factory in Denmark to meet demand for V164 8MW turbines.
The company said more than 140 new jobs will be created at the facility to supplement the lead blade factory on the Isle of Wight, where production has been ongoing since mid-2015.
Nakskov will employ approximately 240 production workers and 20 employees in support functions, MHI Vestas said.
The decision to increase production capacity will see the MHI Vestas Offshore Wind blades unit grow to approximately 500 employees between the Isle of Wight and Nakskov facilities, with a single leadership team responsible for the whole division.
MHI Vestas said it has a stable pipeline of V164 8MW orders through until 2019.
These include 256MW Burbo 2, an unconditional order for 40 units, conditional orders for the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 and 400MW Horns Rev 3 offshore projects, as well as being preferred supplier for the 370MW Norther development.
MHI Vestas said the existing Nakskov facility was chosen for the expansion to “swiftly and efficiently ramp up production”.
The Danish factory currently has 120 full time employees.
