A prototype of Adwen’s next generation 8MW offshore wind turbine will be erected in the German port of Bremerhaven.
The site will be located at a disused airport close to a planned new terminal which will service the offshore wind industry.
Adwen, a 50:50 joint venture between Areva and Gamesa, has applied for permits to erect the turbine with the company hoping to break ground in September.
It hopes to begin construction in September and commission the hardware by the end of the year. The turbine is expected to receive certification in 2017.
The company has chosen the site due to its proximity to component production locations as well as the Fraunhofer IWES test centre where drivetrain tests are taking place.
