Iberdrola and local utility Neoenergia have started operating the 150MW Calangos wind farm complex in northern Brazil.
The project comprises five 30MW wind farms located in the Rio Grande do Norte state, which will generate enough electricity for about 450,000 Brazilians.
It is Iberdrola’s largest renewable energy facility in Latin America, the company said.
The complex, financed by BNDES and Banco de Brasil, uses 2MW Gamesa turbines built in Bahia state.
Iberdrola and Neoenergia now operate 337.3MW of wind capacity in the country and are building another 178.5MW. The Spanish company owns a 39% share of the utility.
