Nexans has confirmed a €245m contract to supply and install a pair of 220kV export cables for the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland.
The French company said today it will work with Siemens Transmission and Distribution to deliver some 260km of onshore and offshore cables under a turnkey deal.
Nexans will use its cable lay ship Skagerrak for the work which will also feature the company’s capjet system for trenching.
Beatrice will feature 84 Siemens 7MW turbines in the outer Moray Firth and is being developed by SSE, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and SDIC Power of China. The consortium announced on Monday that they had reached a positive £2.6bn final investment decision.
Senior vice president at Nexans high voltage and underwater cable division Dirk Steinbrink said: “This contract represents Nexans global commitment to meeting the growing energy demands and facilitate energy transition in Europe. It highlights our ability to deliver turnkey projects for connecting offshore wind farms to the grid.”
