RenewableUK Cymru has called on the new Labour-led Welsh government to implement “innovative” renewable energy proposals from the Liberal Democrats and Plaid Cymru.
Labour’s minority government includes the appointment to the Welsh cabinet of Lib Dem leader Kirsty Williams.
RUK Cymru director David Clubb said he backed Lib Dem and Plaid election pledges to boost renewables.
“We endorse Liberal Democrat proposals to introduce a carbon impact assessment for all new laws and to have a presumption in favour for planning applications for community energy and the Plaid Cymru idea of a national not-for-profit energy company to support delivery of government objectives,” he said.
Clubb added RUK Cymru and its members were ready to create jobs across the spectrum of sustainability, including new renewable energy projects, sustainable, energy-efficient buildings, and cleaner forms of transport.
“The new Welsh Government should know the sustainable energy sector is a willing partner, and is eager to help fulfil the wishes of the people of Wales in making this a truly sustainable country.”
In its ‘manifesto’ last year, RUK Cymru called for a framework including policies such as targets for renewable energy, strong regulations in new and renovated buildings, and for the retention of business rates on renewable energy projects to remain with the local authority.
