Dong Energy has completed the takeover of a 1GW offshore wind lease in New Jersey from RES Americas.
RES, which paid $880,715 for the site at an auction in 2015, will continue to support development.
Dong has named the project Ocean Wind. The lease area covers 160,480 acres and starts about 10 miles off the coast.
The deal is the second time RES has won and then offloaded a US wind lease. Dong also is developing the 1GW Bay State wind farm off Massachusetts.
The Danish developer aims to build a pipeline of projects along the Atlantic coast, said North America wind power general manager Thomas Brostrøm.
“As the world leader of offshore wind development, we look forward to expanding our profile in the US and potentially building an industry,” he said.
Rival US Wind is also developing a New Jersey offshore project, a 183,000-acre lease area north of Ocean Wind.
