US developer Invenergy Wind proposes to install GE turbines at a 120MW wind farm in the southwest corner Wyoming.
The Uinta project is expected to employ 50 to 70 2MW to 2.3MW machines.
Chicago-based Invenergy has secured land leases and has conducted a desktop archeological and cultural survey, said spokesperson Mary Ryan. Environmental studies are underway.
The project area is used for cattle grazing and oil and gas production.
The site lies next to the 144MW Wyoming wind farm owned by Canadian outfit TransAlta Renewables and operated by NextEra Energy Resources.
Uinta County has approved a conditional use permit and Invenergy expects to seek state approval in the coming months.
The company has submitted an interconnection request with Pacificorp, a utility that serves parts of Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and Washington.
Construction could begin before the end of this year with commercial operation beginning as early as 2017.
