US utility Calpine Corp is laying the groundwork for a 200MW wind farm in northeast Indiana.
“We are still in early development phase,” Calpine spokesman Brett Kerr told reNEWS.
The Texas-based company proposes to build 80 to 100 turbines at the Big Blue River scheme in Henry County. The project area includes the townships of Greensboro, Jefferson, Harrison and Prairie.
Calpine will continue to collect on-site wind data, secure leases with landowners and perform wildlife surveys, said Kerr. The developer is also pursuing an interconnection agreement with grid operator PJM.
The utility estimates the project will cost $300m to $350m. Calpine aims to start commercial operation of Big Blue River in 2018.
