Avangrid Renewables has unveiled plans for pair of 100MW wind farms in northern New York State.
The developer, a JV between Iberdrola Renewables and UIL Holdings, seeks state approval for the North Ridge wind project in St Lawrence County and the Deer River proposal in Lewis County.
Each development would include up to 40 turbines and generate an estimated 280,000MWh per year, Avangrid said in regulatory filings.
The Portland developer has filed a proposed public involvement program plan for review by the Department of Public Service, the first step in the Article 10 process for a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need.
Development of North Ridge started more than six years ago but there has been little activity in recent years. A meteorological tower is gathering data and Avangrid recently received local approval for three additional temporary met masts.
North Ridge would connect to the grid through a project substation next to National Grid’s Colton-Nicholville 115kV transmission line.
The Deer River project would tie into the electricity system via a six-mile 34.5kV collection line to a substation alongside National Grid’s Lighthouse Hill-Black River 115kV line.
The applicant expects to hold public information meetings in June and November before submitting a preliminary scooping statement.
