Østensjø Rederi is to supply a service operation vessel to Dong Energy’s 1.2GW Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm, which will be located off the UK’s Yorkshire coast.
The deal is for five years with the option of five more and the vessel will be delivered in the third quarter of 2018.
The more than 81-metre long vessel will function as a mother ship for wind turbine technicians as they carry out maintenance work on the Hornsea project.
The vessel is a DP2 SOV with high station keeping capacities, Østensjø said. It will have 60 single cabins and will accommodate up to 40 wind turbine technicians as well as a crew of 20.
A motion compensated gangway system with an adjustable pedestal will be installed to ensure safe operations and optimal uptime, the company added.
The vessel, which will be designed by Rolls Royce in close cooperation with Østensjø Rederi, is also expected to be equipped with a helideck.
Spanish outfit Astilleros Gondan will build the vessel, which will be the sister vessel of an SOV Dong ordered in October last year.
