UK developer Hive Energy has opened an office in Spain to develop solar power projects around the country.
The company is already looking at sites with more than 300MW in combined capacity, it said.
Spain’s solar market is still attractive in the absence of subsidies, Hive said.
Spain general manager Luis Martinez Hermida said: “Since the typical development time for a solar project in Spain is close to two years, we believe that securing and starting to develop projects now so that they will be ready by 2017/2018 will pave the way for economically viable solutions in terms of PPAs, swap or derivative options.”
Hive has also opened new offices in Dubai, Turkey and Mexico over the past year.
