A2Sea’s jack-up vessel Sea Installer is undergoing modification and maintenance at Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam’s yard.
The modifications, primarily to its main crane, will enable the vessel to take on a broader scope of work involving heavier and larger components in the offshore wind industry.
Sea Installer arrived at the yard on 10 April alongside lay-by berth number one (pictured).
Damen said the prefabrication and delivery of the new boom rest, hook block pockets, trolley rail and support stools was carried out by Niron Staal Amsterdam, which is also part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion.
Damen Project Manager Daniel Gerner said the shipyard has also created a temporary lifting and storage area alongside the vessel’s berth to remove 569 tonnes from the vessel and lift a further 702 tonnes back on board again.
The yard will use an LR1600-2 Mammoet crane to perform the lifts.
The vessel’s crane will be upgraded from a single mode 800-tonne unit to a double mode long and short 900-tonne crane.
The company is also inspecting the spud cans on the jacking equipment and will replace one of the jacking cylinders.
Gerner said: “We are looking at finishing this considerable project within a two-month timeframe.
“The strong winds that we had here during the first couple of weeks have set us back a bit, but we are still on course for timely completion. If necessary, we can ramp up our work schedule by moving to 24/7 operations.”
