The British public believe that renewable energy provides clear economic benefits and want projects developed near them, according to a new government survey.
The Public Attitudes Tracking Survey published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change shows that about 70% of the UK population see tangible benefits from renewables and 56% would be happy with a large-scale generator built in their local area.
“It’s great that the British public sees how renewable energy is helping to grow the UK economy”, said RenewableUK chief executive Hugh McNeal.
“Renewables are delivering investment and jobs throughout our country.”
Support for all renewable sources rose to 81% – with onshore wind at 69%, offshore wind at 76% and marine energy at 77%.
