Scottow Moor Solar has completed a near 50MW solar farm on the former RAF Coltishall airbase near Norwich in the UK.
The company said the final elements of the project consisted of four separate solar generating units, each connected and supplying electricity to aircraft hangars that form part of the Scottow Enterprise Park.
Work on the four units started in January and involved the installation of more than 70,000 solar panels on land adjacent to the runways and aprons. It also included new underground connections to the local UKPN electricity network.
The first phase of the solar farm was completed in March last year.
Norfolk County Council and the landowners of the former RAF base will receive more than £10m in rental income from Scottow Moor Solar over the next 25 years.
Scottow Moor Solar’s David Fyffe said: “We hope that by providing onsite and sustainable electricity generation, the solar farm can help attract new investment into Scottow Enterprise Park.”
