US federal officials are paving the way for a lease auction in the offshore wind zone in New York.
A meeting to be held on 28 April will detail a draft proposed sale notice for the area for review and comment by the NY Renewalbe Energy Task Force.
“The PSN is a public notice that the Bureau of Offshore Energy Management will publish later this year . . . for a 60-day public comment period that solicits input on an offshore wind auction,” said BOEM.
Both Janice M. Schneider, sssistant secretary for land and mineralsmManagement at the US Department of the Interior, and Abigail Ross Hopper, BOEM director, will be providing opening remarks.
A number of developers have already expressed an interest in pursuing projects around 20km off New York. The area is based on a 700MW proposal by the New York Power Authority in 2011.
