British Airways has kicked off a new Siemens-inspired air service designed to link offshore wind centres in Hull with counterparts on Jutland in Denmark.
Scandinavian outfit Sun-Air will operate the flights between both Billund and Aalborg to Humberside with an initial run going this morning (Friday).
“The new route opened in close cooperation with Siemens Wind Power and will support the growing wind industry in the Humberside area and connect the wind farm areas on the English east coast of Jutland,” said the airline.
Sun-AIr commecial director Kristian Tvergaard said: “Our strategy is to offer direct services in close cooperation with the regional business community. We have worked closely with Siemens and Humberside airport to develop this niche, which is also a valuable opportunity for the market in general.”
Ross Dean, Siemens commercial director at Green Port Hull, said: “It is really important for our staff that we have found a solution to minimize their travel time.”
Flights run Friday and Sunday and will be feature Dornier 328 jets seating for 32 passengers. The expected flight time is 90 minutes.
Tvergaard said: “We plan to increase the number of flights and have a desire to offer at least one additional weekly flight during the autumn with the possibility to add even more departures.
“This is to accommodate the Danish subcontractors requirement for a direct link between the two regions.”
