The European Wind Energy Association has rebranded as WindEurope after 34 years supporting the role out of the technology.
The Brussels lobby group said today that wind energy has transformed into a mainstream industry and that its brand must now evolve too. The association has grown alongside the sector, which is now a major player in the energy industry, it said.
Wind power is one of the biggest European industrial success stories in the past quarter of a century, according to WindEurope. Local companies manufacture about 40 percent of all wind turbines sold globally and account for 255,000 jobs.
The technology already covers more than 11% of Europe’s electricity demand and will reach as much as 18% by 2020.
