Fugro has completed geotechnical site investigations at the 100MW Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm off the Scottish coast.
Drilling vessel Bucentaur was deployed last month and has now finished assessments at all 11 turbine locations on the project which is being co-developed by Vattenfall and the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group.
The data gathered will be used to microsite hardware foundations ahead of full construction in late 2017 pending a final investment decision later this year.
Fugro’s senior project manager Dennis van den Bulk said: “A two phased approach was adopted over a period of 11 days. During the first phase we conducted seabed cone penetration tests (CPTs) and seismic CPTs down to refusal at each of the turbine locations, and in the second phase we drilled three boreholes.”
He added: “The offshore phase was completed safely, successfully and without any significant downtime, validating the solution.”
Commercial operations at the project, also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), are expected to begin in 2018.
