US outfit Nobles 2 Power Partners has kicked off permitting for the Nobles 2 wind project in Minnesota.
The proponent proposes to build a 250MW to 300MW wind farm in Nobles County, in the southwest part of the state. The project will employ about 150 turbines and a step-up substation, said the developer in a letter to county commissioners.
The developer plans to apply to state regulators for a site permit and certificate of need this spring.
“The county will follow our standard process of having the company apply for a permit once the Public Utilities Commission approves the project and then we will consider approving based on our land use policies,” Noble County administrator Tom Johnson told reNEWS.
Nobles 2 is located near several existing wind farms, including 200MW Nobles, 30MW Community Wind South, 205.5MW Fenton and 200MW Prairie Rose.
Westwood Professional Services has been engaged to complete initial studies and permitting. Turbine technology has yet to be selected.
