Moroccan utility ONEE has awarded a €1bn tender for the construction of 850MW of onshore wind to Enel Green Power (EGP), Nareva and Siemens.
The phase 2 tender gives the trio the rights to develop, design, finance, construct, operate and maintain five wind projects in Morocco.
The projects are the 150MW Midelt, 100MW Tanger and 200MW Jbel Lahdid in northern Morocco and the 300MW Tiskrad and 100MW Boujdour in the country’s south.
EGP’s chief executive Francesco Venturini said: “This accomplishment demonstrates that our strategy to expand our footprint in Africa is paying off.”
“We are leveraging on our knowledge and expertise, in collaboration with our partners, to contribute to Morocco’s ambitious energy plan that has renewables at its core.
“The country is an example in North Africa of reliability and transparency in supporting the development of renewable technologies.”
The wind farms will be commissioned between 2017 and 2020.
The power will be sold to ONEE – the Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable – under 20-year power purchase agreements.
